We're so excited to share the story behind our solid skin tone tights—a project born out of a desire for true inclusivity and practical innovation. What started as an inspiration has blossomed into a product we're incredibly proud of, and it all began in 2023.
A Seed of Inspiration
The initial idea for an expanded, inclusive range of tights was sparked when we discovered the incredible work of a Black-owned brand in the US (Melanin Fleece Tights). Their commitment to creating tights that actually matched diverse skin tones was a powerful reminder of a gap in the market and an opportunity to do more.
We knew we wanted to build on that concept, offering an even more inclusive range of shades while also solving some of the most common frustrations that come with wearing tights.
The Formulation Journey: Choosing the Right Shades
Our goal was simple: create tights that offer natural, skin-like colors with the cozy warmth of fleece tights. The execution, however, was anything but simple!
Starting in 2023, our team dedicated months to the formulation process. We received countless samples from manufacturers, scrutinizing every swatch and fiber. We had to ensure the colors were vibrant, true-to-life, and worked beautifully across different lighting conditions.
This was a meticulous process of carefully choosing the shades and then continuously perfecting them. We didn't stop until we had a curated selection that genuinely celebrated the diversity of human skin.
Solving the Common Tights Frustrations
While inclusivity in color was our foundation, innovation in design was equally important. We took a hard look at the common complaints about traditional tights and developed solutions:
The "Black Ankle" Problem: Traditional cut-and-sew designs often result in an awkward, obvious line at the ankle. Our design eliminates the contrasting fabric, resulting in a seamless, no-black-ankle finish.
Tearing and Snagging: We selected durable materials to address concerns about easy tearing and snagging, ensuring your tights last longer.
Design Boredom: Our tights are designed to be a solid base layer. This means you can easily change the design you put on top—whether it's a sheer patterned stocking, a fun overlay, or just your favorite skirt or dress. They also look fantastic worn on their own without an overlay design.
Crafted for Comfort and Fit
Beyond color and durability, we focused on superior fit:
Single Seam Back: Instead of two bulky vertical seams, our tights feature a single seam back design. This creates a cleaner silhouette and prevents the awkward pull and bunching of excess fabric.
Diamond Gusset: We've incorporated a diamond gusset for a better, more comfortable fit, providing essential room and flexibility where it counts.
